We are now looking for an

Investment Manager

to our Digital Infrastructure and Solutions team for a full-time, permanent position in Helsinki.

Digital Infrastructure and Solutions (DIS) is one of Finnfund’s focus sectors and we are now looking for a new member to join the dedicated investment team. You will be responsible for identifying and developing new investment projects and managing client relations.

DIS sector investments have a strong impact in our target countries. We invest in commercially attractive high impact businesses within the emerging markets digital value chain, focusing on rural connectivity, access to data, and digital solutions that increase productivity and improve access to products and services. DIS team’s recent investments include various emerging markets high impact and fast-growing companies such as Africa Mobile Networks, Wave Mobile Money, KaiOS, BCS Group, Twiga, and Fibertime.

What you will be doing

Digital Infrastructure and Solutions is the fastest growing sector within Finnfund’s investment function. As an Investment Manager, you will be responsible for originating, developing, negotiating, and executing new investment opportunities in the sector. Part of the role is to manage the existing investment portfolio with the team.

You will be working closely with investees, co-investors, financial advisors, and other stakeholders within the emerging markets investment community and play a key part in the development of the DIS investment pipeline and portfolio.

You will be working closely with other members of the investment team and with colleagues across Finnfund: a typical project team has members from our environment and social responsibility team, development impact team as well as from our legal affairs.

As Finnfund acts as an advisor and sole source for investments to the OP Finnfund Global Impact Fund I, you are expected to work with the Fund Managers of the Fund as well.

The key areas of responsibility include:

• Originating new investment opportunities and executing investments

• Leading the project team throughout the entire investment cycle, including pre-investment evaluation, preparation of investment committee materials, negotiations, structuring, and documentation

• Monitoring the development of digital infrastructure and solutions sector in Finnfund’s target countries

• Actively participating in marketing of Finnfund and participating in relevant investment conferences, often as a speaker or panelist

• Building and maintaining relationships with investees, co-investors, and other stakeholders

• Developing internal skills and capabilities in digital infrastructure and solution spaces

Who we are looking for

An ideal candidate should have a master’s degree in a relevant field and a minimum of 5 years of applicable professional experience from investment or corporate banking, management consultancy, PE or VC fund, or from a relevant corporate function with telecom and/or technology sector focus and demonstrated expertise in corporate finance. Excellent writing and communication skills in English are a prerequisite, while fluency in other languages and international investment experience are considered an asset.

A successful candidate for this position is a proactive, flexible, and independent worker with strong teamwork skills. We are looking for a candidate with strong communication and negotiation skills who is social, results-oriented, and not afraid of challenges. In today’s hybrid working environment, excellent ICT skills are required. The position requires some amount of travel in Finnfund’s target countries.
