We are looking for a Compliance Counsel

Finnfund is a Finnish development financier and impact investor. We build a sustainable future and generate lasting impact by investing in businesses that solve global development challenges. We invest 200–250 million euros in 20–30 companies in developing countries each year. Our focus sectors include renewable energy, sustainable forestry, sustainable agriculture, financial institutions, and digital infrastructure and solutions. Today Finnfund’s investments and commitments total about 1.070 billion euros, half of them in Africa. The company has 90 employees.

We are now looking for a

Compliance Counsel

for a full-time, permanent position in Helsinki.

What you will be doing

As a Compliance Counsel, you will be leading Finnfund’s Know Your Customer (KYC) function and be responsible for managing and developing Finnfund’s compliance procedures, especially in the field of KYC matters, anti-money laundering and sanctions as well as whistleblowing.

The key areas of responsibility include:

  • acting as a supervisor to Finnfund’s KYC function
  • managing and developing the KYC work related to Finnfund’s projects and its stakeholders
  • advising on and monitoring developments in KYC, anti-money laundering and sanctions regulations as well as whistleblowing
  • developing and renewing whistleblowing processes and acting as a secretary in the whistleblowing committee
  • providing internal training and communication especially in the areas of KYC, anti-money laundering and sanctions as well as whistleblowing
  • assessing compliance related risks and acting as a contact person for money laundering affairs
  • other related compliance work

Who we are looking for

An ideal candidate should have a Master of Laws degree from Finland and a minimum of 5 years of applicable professional experience. Previous experience in supervisory work as well as training at the bench or other work experience in court proceedings are considered as an asset.

Excellent writing and communication skills in Finnish and English are a prerequisite, while fluency in other languages and international experience are considered a merit. A successful candidate for this position is a proactive person who has good teamwork skills, the capability to take responsibility and full ownership of their work, is able to work independently under time pressure and can manage multiple projects at once. In today’s hybrid working environment, excellent ICT skills are required. We are looking for a committed employee and supervisor who wants to do meaningful work in the field of impact investing.
