Chief Executive Officer’s review: New initiatives in turbulent times

“In 2025, we raised nearly 200 million euros from the market. We also launched Finnfund Digital Access Impact Fund I, a private equity fund dedicated to advancing digital infrastructure and solutions in emerging markets. The digital infrastructure and solutions sector is characterised by rapid technological changes resulting in high impact and commercial potential. Digital infrastructure is also a sector where Finnish technology tends to contribute most,” says Jaakko Kangasniemi, Finnfund’s Managing Director and CEO.

Collaboration with Finnish companies has always been part of Finnfund’s work. While we cannot invest in companies registered in Finland, our investments very often involve Finnish companies as technology or service providers, owners, or co-investors (54 per cent of new investment decisions in 2025).

Our investments in 2025

Finnfund’s investment portfolio was 857 million euros. At the end of the year, the company’s investments, commitments and investment decisions totalled about 1.22 billion euros.

Finnfund continued actively investing in developing countries. In 2025, Finnfund made 24 investment decisions, totalling 181 million euros. Africa remains Finnfund’s primary investment destination, accounting for 50 per cent of decisions and 58 per cent of the monetary value. Asia follows closely, with 50 per cent of decisions and 42 per cent of monetary value.

106 million euros, 59 per cent of the total investment volume, was directed to investments that support climate and nature goals.
