Finnfund is a Finnish development financier and impact investor. We build a sustainable future and generate lasting impact by investing in businesses that solve global development challenges. We invest 200–250 million euros in 20–30 companies in developing countries each year. Our focus sectors include renewable energy, sustainable forestry, sustainable agriculture, financial institutions, and digital infrastructure and solutions. Today Finnfund’s investments, commitments, and investment decisions total about 1.12 billion euros, half of them in Africa. The company has 100 employees based in Helsinki and Nairobi.
We are now looking for a
Trainee
to Finnfund’s risk management team for a full-time, 4-month position in Helsinki. The trainee period can start between 1 May/1 June and ends on 31 August (with possible part-time extension after that).
What you will be doing
The traineeship gives you a unique vantage point to development finance and impact investing. You will work together with our risk analysts, our treasury team and our controller who together cover a large variety of tasks and can be seen as the engine of Finnfund – making our investments happen and ensuring that our processes run smoothly.
As a trainee, you will
– Analyse financial statements of projects and enter the information into our systems
– Enter and analyse financial statement information of investments in our funds portfolio
– Participate in process development for example related to risk classifications
Based on your previous experience and areas of interest, other tasks and projects can be included in your job description.
Who we are looking for
An ideal candidate for this position is a student majoring in finance, accounting or economics. You may, for example, have been studying for a couple of years or you may be a master’s degree student. What is essential is that you are acquainted with company financial statements for example through your studies or previous work experience. You understand at least the basics of company financing.
The position requires fluent written and oral Finnish and English skills as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office and capacity to easily adopt new IT systems. Good communication skills and previous experience of analysing companies are considered an asset.
We also value team working skills and are looking for an active approach and willingness to take on a broad range of tasks independently.
